  • It has begun

    DSC09280

In the past couple of days, since hurricane Irene passed through, summer and fall have been locked in mortal combat.  The nighttime temperatures plummet into the low 50's and even some 40's while the daytime temps have been trying valiantly to regain those hot muggy 80's that we have known all summer.  The gentle breezes of summer are slowly giving way to the unpredictable gusts and lashing winds of fall.  Winds that are designed for cutting through the thickest of clothing and stripping the trees bare of their raiment.  Even the bright and pungent summer days, days redolent with corn, freshly mowed hay and ripening produce, are slowly giving way to the musky days of fall.  This morning when I stepped outside I saw that this maple tree in the front yard had succumbed to the ravishment of battle and has begun to exchange it's verdant green robes for the fleeting but more transient hues of fall.

  • I personally, welcome this change my friend. This summer has been filled with tagedy. I pray this change of seasons is a bit more gradual. Seems like we went straight from winter to summer here. Our fighters still have alot to contend with.

  • @jfwylie - You all are in my prayers.  I truly wish I could send this rain your way to put out the fires and quench the thirst of the land down there.

  • Beautifully said Anne.

    Pretty much the same here.

  • @perelandra30 - And if I could, I'd come up there and get it. I've been asked lately, "why do you live in that place?" It brought a tear to my eye. Partly because of the dear friend that asked and partly because this is my home. I told him "Texas has centamental value I guess". lol.

  • @jfwylie - No different than folks asking why I like here. I hate snow, cold, and driving in the winter. My body has already begun the aches and pains that will be my companion until summer comes again.  Why do I live here?  It is bred to the bone.  The changes of the seasons, the hatred of the snow, the smells, colors, textures are all a part of me that are as essential as my vital organs.  I hear you and understand where you are coming from.  Hugs to you.

  • We were over 100 just a couple of days ago for the 68th time this summer (or something like that). It has been wonderful to have highs in the 80s the last two days. I will not miss summer at all.

  • @Roadkill_Spatula - I know a lot of people who feel as you do. I will not miss the humidity but the heat will be sorely missed here! However I have been taught to be thankful to be alive and able to move about so whatever God sends my way will be welcome.

  • The lack of humidity is one of the few nice things about north Texas. I'm glad not to live in Houston.
