Another Creative Road
While cleaning out a cabinet today. I was looking for more room for table linens. I found the pattern for these little pinafores. They’re called Popover Pinafores. When MK was little she had many, many of these in all sizes and colors. She was one of the messiest children that I knew. So I would just put one of these on her so that the dress that I had labored over wouldn’t be ruined by whatever she happened to get into that day. When her pinafore got too stained I would just make a rag out of it or throw it away.
After coming across the patterns I just couldn’t resist making one. I unearthed a couple of coordinating scraps of fabric and this is what I came up with. I have a friend with three young daughters in a row who I know would appreciate getting a few of these. I think I will make a few more tomorrow. It is even reversible.

Cute! So you used them for more than just meals?
Adorable!!
Love them, that’s my style in dressing children, comfie and cute. : ) Simple for mommy too…. Great idea! Very functional!
My daughter wore lots of these in summer with “bloomers” to match.
Hey Ann, maybe I need a popover too! I catch myself wiping my hands on my turtleneck shirt wayyyy too many times, I think we call popovers, aprons? ; ) Perhaps I need to make myself some cute aprons with pockets mind you. : ) Did you see my pulse on 52 apron patterns yesterday? You might like it but I bet you have more than 52 already! : D
@homefire - She wore them all day long!!!!! She could get dirty during her naps!
@thats_italian - Actually I am fussy about my aprons. I have two that I wear and two that I keep for the other guys so they don’t wear mine. They need to have ties long enough to go around me twice and to have pockets in them big enough to hold everything that I pick up. (I am always “gathering” things in my pockets to put away) I also don’t like them to be too light weight since they have to put up with a lot of wear and tear. I usually make them from home decorators fabric when it is on sale at JoAnn Fabrics. As long as you don’t put it in the dryer it lasts for a good long time.
Sweet! I love the colors, very happy and springlike!
You are so creative.
I am an apron fan myself. I have several, some for cooking, some for gardening. Big pockets are a must!
@perelandra30 - Thanks Ann! I (we) ; ) do have quite a collection of vintage aprons, I think I need to sew me up some for practicality or mayb I should take some smart pills and buy some from the girls’ boutiqe. (ding-dong) : )
@thats_italian - You asked about the model number of my White sewing machine. It is a White 2037. Today I panicked because it suddenly wouldn’t go forward. So I took the bobbin case apart and it was so caked with lint and dust, no wonder it wouldn’t move. I blew it out with a can of compressed air and it is back to normal again.
@TheLoquaciousLady - I just bought some Wizard of Oz fabric and was thinking of making myself an apron for outside. The fabric is of the yellow brick road pattern and I thought it would be nice for the garden so they couldn’t lose me in all the weeds.
@perelandra30 - Thank you! I will definitely keep this on file for when we are in the market for another sewing machine! : ) I appreciate you taking the time to check on that number. Bless you.
That is such a good idea. I don’t sew much anymore, but I think I could make some popovers for my grand-daughter. I use an old Singer Featherweight Portable machine. It only does straight stitching, but that’s good enough for me.
@ata_grandma - That works. I learned to sew on featherweight. Boy do I wish I still had that machine. That was a lot of years ago. Would you like copies of the patterns? Just message me you address.
My girls (and boys) still need these (but they come by it genetically — my mom said that I could get dirty eating dry toast and that I was allergic to spaghetti because I couldn’t eat it without wearing it). They are adorable. I wish that I had those when I had 3 little girls all in a row all of whom can get dirty sitting and reading. You are such a blessing with all your sewing and cooking. May the Lord richly bless you.
