Simple Woman’s Daybook Monday 23 February 2009
Outside my window…..It’s cold and the wind is blowing. I heard Ian leave sometime around 4 this morning so I assume that it has been snowing. It is still dark out there.
I am thinking…….deep thoughts about family and sadness. This is going to be a dark day if I don’t work very hard to fight off the blackness.
From the schoolroom……..nothing yet, but Matthew and Brett will be hard at work when we get home from Mass.
I am thankful for……prayers and the ability to pray.
From the kitchen……..hooray!!!!! Matthew just ate the last of the pizza and wings so they aren’t there tempting me. Tomorrow is Fat Tuesday so I have to plan on pancakes for supper. Today I think it is pulled pork for supper.
I am wearing………long johns, blue tee shirt and slippers. I have to get my shower and get ready for Mass as soon as Matthew is done in the bathroom.
I am reading………The Maxims of Christian Chivalry
I am hoping……….to get my broken sewing machine dropped off this morning, get the batting and backing for the completed quilt tops.
I am creating………a plan for lent
I am hearing……the wind blowing outside my window and the sounds of Matthew taking his shower.
Around the house……..all is quiet, too quiet.
One of my favorite things……..warm cozy evenings, wrapped in a quilt, reading a book.
A few plans for the rest of the week…….get out the quilt frame and get these quilts basted and ready to be quilted, along with laundry, classes, holy hour, ash wednesday, and stations of the cross on friday. Oh, and did I mention that I have to pick up MK to make sure that she gets to church on Wednesday.
Here is a picture thought that I am sharing with you………….
Lupus had to pose for this picture. She is feeling a little lonely since MK went back to school. That’s here “please come home” look.

she is one very sad looking dog.
Your doggie and my dog, Charlie would be great buds. : ) They both have the same eyes and expressions. What sweethearts!
What kind of sewing machine do you have? I wish I had a decent fix up shop here for sewing machines. The last time one of mine broke, I called the only shop I knew of and when she asked what kind of machine I had, she told me it was junk. : O It probably was but gosh! I just went out and bought the cheapest at WM…The Brothers. It’s not have bad either. : ) It actually has more metal parts on it than the Singer. And it was less expensive than the cost of that shop just to take a look. It’s not perfect, but it’s pretty functinal, until I can afford a heavy duty machine. I haven’t sewn since the fall.
Have a great day!
I’ll keep you in my prayers.
I’ve also been fighting off a blackness that just won’t seem to let up. It’s certainly wearing me down this time around with a ferocity that I haven’t ever encountered before. God willing, the sun will come out for you and I both.
@thats_italian - It’s a Singer. I have several different brands. This one was a cheap one that I bought for Matthew to use. Suddenly it won’t sew forward only back. I take it to the fabric shop and they send it out to the repairman in the city. He brings it back a week later all better. He charges about $80 to fix, clean, oil, and re-time. It’s only more if it needs parts. Not bad when you think of it. My favorite machine is a White that was only $179 about eight years ago. That machine can take anything. It has never been in the shop. But it is due for a good cleaning after sewing a bunch of fleece this past Christmas.
@JMHardens060703 - I think this whole problem for me is a combo of the winter, our situation here, and a problem with my hormones and medication not being in balance anymore. My surgery knocked everything out of whack and I cannot seem to get it back in line. Couple that with the relentless cold and snow and stress over finances and one of my sons situations and no wonder I can’t seem to keep it together. We just have to pray for each other. Too bad that we don’t live closer. Message me if you need to. I am a great listener, even in the middle of the night. I’m up most nights, all night.
@perelandra30 - Gosh this shop wanted 80 dollars just to look at mine. I spent 69 dollars on the Brothers. : )
Thanks for letting me know about the White. I’ll keep my eye on that. What is the model number of yours? Maybe I can keep my eye out for one like yours. (Only when you have time of course) : )
That look is a lot like her “I want people food too” look and her “Please let me in even though my feet are muddy” look. She gets a lot of mileage out of that look.
@P_Obrien - You’re so cynical. She’s a very simple dog. Obviously you don’t fall for her looks.
