  • The Simple Womans Daybook Monday 12 January 2009

Outside my window……….  the sun is shining, it is 15 degrees out and snow is gently falling.  We have had snow so many days I think that I am finally getting used to the stuff.  Today is supposed to be the warmest day this week, then it is supposed to get bitterly cold.  That quashes my mens plans for setting fence posts.  If they pound posts in this bitter cold the water in the wood will make the posts shatter.  Oh well, guess they better find something else to do.

I am thinking…….. of all that needs to be done, but that I am content to be home and busy.

I am thankful for………. a husband who works so hard so that I can stay at home and take care of my children, homeschool them, and make a warm and comfortable home for my family.

From the schoolroom………… SILENCE!  Matthew and Brett are taking a Biology test.

From the kitchen……….. leftovers for lunch, roast chicken with vegetables and steamed broccoli for supper.  My husband likes roast chicken so we seem to be having it a lot lately.  Whatever the man wants.

I am wearing………… green flannel pants, white tee shirt and slippers.

I am creating……… nothing special lately.

I am going……. nowhere for the rest of the day.  We went to Mass and made some stops after and now my car can rest for the rest of the day.  It is too cold to go out.

I am reading………… still working A Chance to Die by Elisabeth Elliot

I am hoping……….. to get the laundry done in a reasonable amout of time, then make a new fleece for Mr. PObrien since the one I made him for Christmas was too small.

I am hearing……… the sound of silence.  The test must be a challenge to those two boys.  I hope they studied.

Around the house…….. all is clean and in order thanks to the hard work of MK

One of my favorite things…………. was the walk I took outside this past weekend.  I got to check out my pigs, haven’t been out to the barn since before my surgery.

A few plans for the rest of the week…………. my second grade class tomorrow and holy hour, fifth grade class on thursday and holy hour on friday.  rest and laundry in between.

Here is a picture thought that I am sharing with you…………

    DSC01569

A shot of our nearly frozen creek that I took on my walk yesterday.  There is something beautiful about the barren and frozen countryside in the winter.

  • I wholeheartedly agree with you on your picture. A countryside that’s covered in snow is so beautiful to me it takes my breath away, especially if I see it while the big snowflakes are falling quietly and gently. How I wish I could get some of that here! *sigh*

  • @whteroses - Come on up and see.  There’s plenty of room and Michael will get so much attention.  It’s been a few years since we had a baby in residence.  My last baby sitting child is now six and my youngest is 17.  Our last foster child was in 2005.  We need some children in this house or I am going to start getting old.  You are always welcome and with all of the snow that we have had so far not a day would go by without you seeing “the big snowflakes falling quietly and gently”

  • There is just something about a creek……

  • If it weren’t for the rowdy bunch sitting behind me, I’d get lost in that picture.

  • And the weather is still windy and chilly, with no snow. Kansas! Definitely not a man’s winter around her. It’s almost retiree weather, practically.

  • @JMHardens060703 - the invite still stands.  just give me a little notice so I can sweep the floors and put a chicken to cook and you are all welcome to just get lost in the real thing.  babysitting is included.

  • @P_Obrien - didn’t you know that real men live in NY where winters are cold and the snow is measured in feet?  Sorry you left?

  • I loved reading this post, a lot. You are an amazing lady. If you are getting as much snow as you say you do, you probably are in either northern Minnesota or Canada. I am so happy you enjoy all that you do.

  • Oops, I forgot to compliment you on the choice of the Pavarotti, Damingo and Carreras album that I got to hear. I love them.

  • @perelandra30 - Nope. True manhood is not measured by where he lives, but rather by why he lives there. That and his overall level of pomposity.

  • @ZSA_MD - we live in Central New York and we are indeed getting that much snow. You see the pictures that I have posted of the snow just piling up.  My oldest son works for the town highway dept. and he has been plowing so much that I don’t get to see him enough.  Thank you for the compliment on my choice of music.  My family and I have very ecclectic tastes in music.

  • @P_Obrien - Pomposity you have so that must make you quite the man.

  • Wish I were there (or that I could send you some of our 80 degree weather…it feels like summer and it is hard to remember that we are still doing school) but I mostly wish that I was there….mostly for a good hug and a cup of tea but I’d like to be in the snow too.

@P_Obrien - pomposity, like physical traits, may make you male but it in no way makes you a man!

  • Oh hello my dear friend!!!!  See?  I came over for coffee did I not? ; )  (((HUGS)))

I feel like I’ve been away forever!   Your comment made me smile, it’s always, always, always great to see your beautiful face and heartfelt comments.  Truly, truly so.

Its so wonderful to hear how your are recovering so quickly, that is amazing.

The pics of the snow are just so surreal to me…especially the ones on the below entry with the blankets of snow and the snow falling…it is just amazing to me!  How cozy you must feel inside your home there!

That dress is so very pretty and I know how you feel about driving so far for sewing materials.  At this time we live about fifteen minutes from Walmart so that isn’t too bad, but even then it’s not around the corner either when we need elastic or needles etc.  But I can’t complain…

Your daughter sounds so very sweet, I just loved reading her entry on her mama.  How precious she is and I agree with her wholeheartedly.  I sure do! : )

It’s so great to see you feeling better and reading your words of wisdom…You always know the right things to say, and I feel the same way when I read your son’s comments too.  What a blessing and encouragment your family is.  What neat people you all are!

Well dear friend, I wish you lived on my street.  I do believe we would have more fun then anybody…just having a little coffee together here and there…Those would be great times…But we can have great times here right?

Love to you,  so proud of how well you are doing!   ~Amelia
