  • Shopping in my daughters closet

About 10 years ago I weighed in at 320 lbs.  Then I made up my mind that I was going to actually lose the extra weight.  My sons were going to graduate from high school and I was facing the graduation party thing and having to have people here in large quantities.  We were going to more places with the kids and I was being left behind more and more because mom couldn’t keep up with the family when they went on hikes.  I didn’t want my children to be ashamed of their mother when they had their friends home from college or wherever they went after highschool.  The straw that finally broke the camels back, so to speak, was my youngest brother’s wedding.  A picture was taken of myself with my six brothers and my sister and there I was absolutely huge among all of them.

Whatever the reason I began my odyssey into serious diet and exercise.  I am still on the journey and will be for the rest of my life since I am a food addict and will always be.  I have not had a serious relapse, I am proud to say but that doesn’t mean that it won’t happen at some point in the future.  But I have reached a milestone that I am very proud of.  I am now able to go “shopping” for clothes in my daughter’s closet.

  • Wow, that’s awesome… what an inspiration… congratulations on your weight loss.. and that’s a plus for people with depression (weight loss can do wonders for self esteem)!

It’s so nice to meet you!  Thank you for coming by and commenting on the blog for depression.  I am posting the next 10 weeks on this subject on Monday’s and Thursday’s… there are so many people out there struggling right now… I would love for you to come by and give your input in the comments for others to read and be encouraged by.

where do you guys live?  I am in Texas… Mesquite, Texas to be exact…

God bless and hope to get to know you better!
    Have a wonderful weekend!

    Hugs, Connie

  • Those do look familiar. The jeans had better be back in my drawer so I can wear them this weekend.

  • @mksmak - Fear not, they were just a try on.  I have my own on now.  They are about an 8 and I am happy to know that I am back into my 8′s.  The shirt, however, I am wearing for the day. You can have that back after I do the laundry.

  • @daisymae81 - We live in central New York.  The whole weight loss, to date has been 175 lbs.  Do the math and you can all know what I weigh.  My goal is to weigh less than my husband does.  To be able to have him be able to pick me up and carry me. I already weigh less than I did when we were first married.

  • @perelandra30 - you can keep it. Only wear it once in a blue moon. And if I want to wear it, I can always steal it from your closet.

  • WOW!!! Congratulations to you!!!!  That is quite the accomplishment, and you have every right to be proud of it!

I, myself, will be embarking on that journey soon. I will be looking to you for inspiration, for sure! (And you are right around my goal weight, too! Yahoo!)

Good for you, I bet your whole family is super proud of you.

  • @CanadianBroad - I don’t know about inspiration but you can have all of the encouragment that you want.  Only one who has been there can understand one who is going there.

  • Congratulations….You look WONDERFUL!  You are adorable inside and out.  I’m proud of you, you sound happy and healthy….Your look is a youthful one….very, very pretty and chipper. : )

A size 8?   Wow.  I wasn’t even a size 8 pants in junior or highschool… Now when it comes to skirts they are much more merciful to me sizewise….All I can say, is Kudos to you dear friend!

    Big hugs!!!!   xxxooo   ~Amelia

  • I am absolutely amazed at your accomplishment so far!!!

    That deserves some serious respect.

Todays beer is in your honour.

  • Along with what everyone else is saying, that is a great accomplishment! You look fantastic! I would think that your weight now would be less than your husband’s; you must have one skinny guy. ;) Hopefully I’ll never have to worry about weighing less than my own husband – 230 lbs! He’s a thick guy.

  • It is also good that you have a partner who is supportive of you.  It takes a lot of patience to stick to a diet and exercise plan without backsliding.

  • Do you find that eating a lot more vegetables and salad helps you keep your weight down?  Have you made changes in your eating habits?  Some people say that no carbohydrates after 2:00PM is a wise plan.

  • That is awesome!!! I had gained about 45 pounds these last 20 years and decided to start losing last spring when I had high blood pressure. I’ve only lost 15 so far but I figure it took me 20 years to gain it, I can take a couple of years to lose it!
A size 8 is really awesome…I haven’t been a size 8 since I was 16 or so. I have lost one pants size, but I’ll be happy to get back to a 12..hehe…
    You’re an inspiration to me!
Hope you have a blessed Friday….

  • @Bricker59 - Enjoy as you raise the brew in my honor.  I think I’ll have one too, in thanks to you.

  • Congrats! An amazing accomplishment :  ) Sort of makes me feel a little inspired.

  • That’s a MAJOR accomplishement. Congradulations!

  • Cool. I put on ten pounds since selection. That’s ten pounds over my pre-selection weight. How? I don’t know. Do you think it could be my eating habits? As long as I stay pretty solid, I should be good, though. I can still run like a horse.

Good job. Though I always did like you just the way you were.

  • I am more than impressed!!!  I’m going to be drinking water and eating little until Wed. weigh in.  Did enjoy Branson and other than too much salt…my fault entirely…didn’t do too badly with the eating but even eating the right thing in too large an amount isn’t good.
Did buy things in a size smaller but still not fitting exactly the way I want them to and still want to go down a couple of sizes.  I’m going more by size than weight I think.  I still don’t like what I look like in the clothing store mirrors!!!

  • @thats_italian - I was a size 14 on the bottom and 16 on the top in high school.  To quote my son “when God poured you, mommy, someone must have bumped his elbow” So my top will never be small.  When I was my largest I was a size 22 on the bottom and a 24 on the top.  Now I am an 8 on the bottom (as long as the pants aren’t straight cut, I have the “family thighs”) and a 10 or 12 on the top depending on how the top is made.  Thank you for the compliment on my look.  I am casual most of the time.  Jeans and a tee shirt most of the time.  Being a farmers wife I have to be ready for whatever happens around here.  When I go out Doug likes me in a skirt so it is usually denim too.  He says he doesn’t like other men seeing what is his.  Isn’t that cute.  It takes a lot to get me to dress up much more than that.

  • That is fantastic…..!  congratulations and well done.   V
