  • Alas, poor Blazer, I knew you well.

There comes a time in every vehicle’s life when its life comes to an end. In our world that end is either a violent one (deer meets red minivan) or a quiet passing into the next world as is the case of the Chevy Blazer.

One morning my husband woke up to go to work but unfortunately the Blazer didn’t.  In spite of Ian’s best efforts it couldn’t be revived.

Fortunately it had a donor card in the glove box all filled out and signed so we donated the battery to the backhoe (the one that pushed it onto the trailer).  The gas tank will be stored in the shop for future donation and the tires will fit Jason’s Jeep.

After she underwent the indignity of being scavenged she was hauled off to the scrap yard to bring a pretty price (I hope).

  • We literally drive our vehicles into the ground too.  A different car about every 12 yrs. or longer.  People tell us if all stays good on the inside of this Avalon, we will have it the rest of our lives…..   I hope not since I’d like to have another model at some point but will probably buy Avalon again.  We have never had to do much but get new tires for this one.  May be a Japanese company but it hires American workers in American cities.

  • @TheSunnyC - We only had the Blazer for four years but it was 10 when we bought it.  One used but new to us motor and four new tires later and it was like a new car (for awhile).  My Durango is six years old but looks older.  These northern winters are the death of vehicles.

  • She served you well in this life and continues to serve others……
We start out with old vans and drive them until they don’t make the parts anymore.

  • It’s always a sad day when you have to say goodbye to a car.

  • I tend to donate my old cars to charity while it is still drivable. I am not handy mechanically, I kind of stressed if my car is not dependable.

  • @stevew918 - Doug and I used to do our own repair work but he hasn’t the time anymore and I am too old to be crawling under a car in the cold and rain. (they never breakdown on a warm sunny day)  Dependable? where is the fun in having a dependable car?  In all seriousness, we could never afford anything but someone else’s problem so dependable is simply out of the question.

  • @Bricker59 - I have to confess that I only drove the Blazer a handful of times. I have so many allergies that we tried to keep it for hauling feed and dirty men and my car for me.  About a year ago she developed a leak in the gas tank and that totally put a stop to any thought of my driving it or it being parked near the house.  The new gas tank was only on there a few months before she gave up the ghost.

My sadness is because everyone is driving my car now and keeps adjusting the seat! I am the shortest one in the house and it annoys me no end to have to get into the car and not be able to reach the gas pedal or see in the mirrors.

  • Is that Taps I hear playing in the distance…
