The removal of a childhood landmark.
To all my family members who bother to view this blog, witness the loss of a landmark from our growing up years. Arnott’s has been closed to business for a couple of years now since the owner and former proprietor is getting quiet advanced in years. This past week I drove into Verona as is my usual routine and I was witness to the presence of these backhoes in the parking lot.
As the week progressed the gas tanks were exposed and removed. There are now two very large holes gaping in the parking lot.
Not even the heavy snowfall over the weekend accompanied by the freezing rain was enough to stay the inevitable fate of Arnott’s Super Convenient Grocery Store.
Time will tell what this corner will become for the residents of the Town of Verona in the future.

That just plain sucks…Sadly, a sign of the times.
I’ve seen the same thing happen here over and over.
It never gets easier.
Well that’s a bit heartbreaking~
I do wonder what the plan is.
@Bricker59 - It is going to be very sad to drive past that corner and see something other than the little red store that has been there since before I was born. After the blizzard of 1966 my dad and two other men from the village snowshoed to that store to buy supplies for the families who were snowed in.
Hang on to the memories Ann, they are special.(May I call you Ann?)
So was that store.I hope it isn’t a fucking Walmart going in there.
And tell your son not to come after me for swearing, it’s my natural vocabulary! LOL
It’s always sad when a childhood landmark goes.
I feel your sorrow — my the memories bring you joy
Oh no, I hate things like that…
@Bricker59 - Of course you may call me Ann, Thom. I doubt it will be a WalMart since we already have one.
Lots of things like this go on in this area.
Whenever I hear the word ‘Verona’ I think Shakespeare, and I’m certainly not well versed in him either!
@whteroses - Verona, NY not Italy. I highly recommend you read Shakespeare he is well worth the effort.
@perelandra30 - I’ve only read two: Merchant of Venice and Much Ado About Nothing. I enjoyed both very much, but I’ve always needed help in understanding the language, which I had in high school and college.
@whteroses - Try listening to an audio while reading the text. I find that it helps me with some of the more obscure usage.
