  • The Simple Womans Daybook 27 December 2010

Outside my window….there are exactly 9 degrees being blown around out there.  I know because I was out to take my husband to work and I never managed to run into any of them.  Stay warm people.

I am thinking…I am glad that there are 12 days to Christmas.  I don’t think I could take all this celebrating all at once.  Tonight we are off to our very dear friends to play games, laugh until our sides hurt, listen to MK play carols and Ryan and Matthew sing.  Family and the best of friends, this is what it is all about.

I am thankful for….a little person in the house to help make this Christmas season real for all of us.  There is really nothing like having a baby around to remind all of us why we are here and why we do what we do.

From the schoolroom…I am on my own this week.  Matthew is off so he can enjoy friends and family but mom must plow on in order to keep her average up.

From the kitchen….that’s a good question.  I think I will put in my bid for scalloped potatoes and ham with the leftover ham from Christmas Eve.

I am wearing….jammies. It isn’t my turn to take a shower yet.

I am creating…memories, lots of memories.  Memories of my family and happy times together.

I am going….to stay home and work on my school until it is time to pick up my husband from work and go visit with our friends.

I am reading….nothing for fun.  I have been using all my spare time (what is that?) to play with Layn, visit with the big dude, and soak in the time that we have together.

I am hoping….that each and every person stops and realizes what they have been blessed with.

I am hearing….MK cleaning up the living room, Melissa on the phone finding out when she has to work this week, the wind whistling around the house and trying to claw its way in, and the hum of the water pump in the basement seeing to it that we all have enough water for showers, dishes, and the ever present laundry.

Around the house….it looks like Christmas.  The living room is littered with toys and various other items that were bestowed on family members.  The kitchen counters are stacked with the Christmas dishes and the table is decorated with greens and candles and the shelf on the server holds the remains of the gingerbread village.  The whole house has a very self-satisfied air about it.

One of my favorite things….sitting snuggled with my husband on Christams night after everyone else has gone to bed.  With a glass of wine in hand under the glow of the lights on the tree is the perfect way to remember the year gone by and anticipate the one approaching.

A few plans for the rest of the week…continue the celebration of the twelve days of Christmas.  My niece comes in late tonight, thursday we celebrate Mary-Kate’s birthday with a skating party, another visit to friends later this week, and a very special dinner for the big guy and my niece at the end of the week before they leave.

Here is a picture thought that I am sharing with you…

MK and Melissa gave me Buzz Lightyear and Woody and my very own copy of Toy Story 3.  They are my favorite gifts.

  • sounds like you are having a wonderful Christmas time
Thank you for sharing the moments of your life.
Did Matthew get a cape and tights too?
    Have a good celebration.

  • @ugotafriend - Cape yes, tights sadly no.  I don’t think he would have found the tights as amusing as the rest of the ensemble.

  • It sounds like your family had a lovely Christmas. I hope you get to enjoy the rest of it amidst doing your studies!
