The Simple Womans Daybook 29 June 2009
Outside my window……..it is gooomy and damp. Looks like it has been raining again. My pool is never going to be clear again. This is turning out to be a very wet summer. We have had over six inches of rain in the past two weeks.
I am thinking………..about taking a poll to see if we go to swimming lessons today.
From the schoolroom………..many educational endeavors will take place, after Mass and we pick Brett up.
I am thankful for………..the beautiful day that we had yesterday. Warm and sunny and time spent together.
From the kitchen………….I don’t know yet. Today’s meals will be an adventure that is yet to be realized.
I am wearing………….grey shorts and a white tee shirt. Nearly time to start my morning ablution.
I am reading………..Three Cups of Tea
I am hoping……..to spend some time today with my daughter doing something she likes.
I am creating………..nothing much right now.
I am praying………..that the big guy gets to his next duty station safely after having spent the weekend with family resting.
Around the house………..don’t ask!!!! Too much time spent outside and not enough time spent inside attending to the cleaning.
One of my favorite things…….a husband who goes with the flow and doesn’t mind that I neglect the house for the gardens.
A few plans for the rest of the week……..can’t make too many since I am on jury duty and have to keep myself open.
Here is a picture thought I am sharing with you…………
Matthew hacking his way through the overgrown jungle that resulted from neglect of the area beside where the barns used to stand.
He spent Friday afternoon and evening clearing away brush and cutting down scrub trees that had grown up.
He is determined to make his mark on this place in a very positive way. Already the view is much improved. What a great way to keep a teenage boy occupied too.

That is some pretty dense undergrowth!!
It’s amazing, how quickly the weeds and volunteer trees grow in a neglected area!
I have a friend (atatijosiah) who must be like you. She loves to be outside (playing in the dirt, as she says.) She doesn’t enjoy housecleaning, although her house always looks presentable. She usually has sewing and cooking projects going. Her husband too, is understanding. I wonder what you and your daughter will do? I plan to pick raspberries a bit later this morning.
I wish I had such a job to keep my teenage boys occupied with…
Hope you have a blessed day!
@Bricker59 - @ata_grandma - @brbschrm - That brush is the result of two years of neglect. Before the fire I used to be able to mow back in there. When Matthew gets done he plans on me being able to mow and recovering the Lilac bushes that used to be so beautiful. Some of them came through the fire unscarred and some seemed to recover from the damage pretty well. I am proud of my sons being so willing to rise from the ashes as it were and bring this place back to a thing of beauty and yet a place that speaks of our family and not just a place where we live but had to be careful of offending their grandfather.
You are right about being outside rather than inside. The peace that I find in the dirt and in the fresh air is without explanation. My whole family is tolerant of me and even encouraging. They seem to understand that it keeps my mind healthy and that lends itself to a healthy home.
I think MK and I will do a little sewing. She needs some cooler split skirts to wear and Matthew needs some pj pants that aren’t worn thin in the seat. Since the weather seems a bit chancy today at best I guess we will have to stay inside and make our own bit of fun.
It’s almost hard to imagine that much wild growth! You’re right, what an excellent job for a young guy with energy to burn. Have a good day with your daughter!
Do you have an easy pattern for the split skirt? I’d like a few but haven’t found a pattern for beginners.
@ugotafriend - Message me with your snail mail address and I’ll copy mine and send it to you. I bought a pattern and took out the box pleats and make it so that it works up in about an hour. She has made three in the past two days.
