  • She’s There

She went to her friend Heidi’s house to say good-bye to her and her family yesterday.  After I picked her up we spent a quiet hour in the presence of Our Lord in the blessed sacrament.  Then we bought a few last minute necessities.  When we got home I fixed one of her favorite suppers and her dad surprised her by coming home from work early.   Her friend Grace came to say good-bye also. (she left this morning to go to school in Ohio).  Then we had a fire outside and just talked.  Both of our ideas of a good evening spent at home.

This morning we got up early and packed the last few things, had breakfast and said good-bye to Jason and her dad.  Then it was off to Morrisville.  The check-in process there is much better than what we went through at Cobleskill last year.   She stood in line for her check-in packet then it was off to the gym to pick up her ID.

After a slight snag (the house she is staying in was locked when we first got there) Matthew, Brett, and I moved her into her room.  She is staying off campus in a restored old victorian house called Honors House.

Nice quiet, strict house off campus.  One side is girls and the other is boys and the girls aren’t allowed on the boys side and the boys aren’t allowed on the girls side.  I like that!!!!  She called a little while ago and said that she has her new schedule and has found all of her classrooms.  She checked out the Ice House for the skating schedule.  She knows where the pool is for when she wants to swim.

I hope that she enjoys her new adventure and I know that she will study hard and do well.  I miss you MK very much.

  • Lots of hugs and prayers for you.

When my mom dropped of my older brothers, she’d sob the whole way home.

She was cheery when she and my grandmother left me at school, but I heard from my dad the next day that she didn’t even want to get out of bed the day after.

She’s down to her final two kids.  Tommy is going to college, but will be at home for 2 years before entering the Benedictine order in Atchison, KS.  I think she might get lucky with Peter, who shows no signs of ever leaving my parents’ basement.  Ever.

She’s the mirror of her mother: a sweet, devoted soul with a lot to offer the world.  God bless you.

  • Hang in there.  It does get easier over the years.  I cry less and less every time.

Her housing looks amazing.  Blessed girl.

  • And she’s off. I told her if any college punks give her any trouble just make a list and I’ll break all their legs when I get home.

  • @P_Obrien - we can always count on you to say all the right things.  What girl doesn’t want a big brother such as yourself.

Actually she is blessed to have brothers such as yourself.  She is doing all right.  She has called several times but that is what the phone is for.  She has found all of her classes.  She has changed her schedule to pick up the classes that she needs.  She knows where the dining hall is and where the stores are in town. (all three of them)  She has job applications for the stores in town.  She has all the books that she needs and has returned those that she doesn’t need.  I’d say that she is doing very well.

  • Call me Mr. Sensitive

  • Exciting!  Scary!  I am empathizing with you as the mom while feeling that anticipation and thrill for your daughter.  Praying God’s blessing on you all during this transition!

  • I’m feeling a lot of empathy here! I love the house she’s living in.
A prayer going up for both of you….God bless…

  • Hugs to you as you walk. I can’t imagine it (none of mine want to go any where). I am praying for you and MK has had a great trainer and great parents (and all she has to do is show a picture of Mr. Sensitive and not one of those boys will give her a hard time. Although having 5 brothers has undoubtedly taught her how to handle any guy without any problems and her sweet mother has taught her how to do it gracefully so……) blessings to you.
