  • Christmas Highlights

Some of the highlights of the gift giving that went on here Christmas day.  I think that this year’s ideas were a great success.  It is often difficult to think of things for children who are both non-materialistic and who don’t really expect anything much at Christmas time.

Mary-Kate made Matthew this Jedi master costume.  It is difficult to hide when we are sewing anything in this house even gifts so he was quite interested in this costume that he thought she was making for herself.  It was a task to keep him from borrowing the pattern and making one for himself.  Very happy guy when he got that package.

Mary-Kate made Doug the fleece and Matthew bought the hat and mittens.  Always a hit with their father is anything to keep him warm as he works outside year round.

Ian has a Carhart jacket that we bought him a year ago.  He wears it every day and when he comes to wash it practically waits by the dryer until it comes out.  It has patches on it and I have already put a new zipper in it.  Doug and I decided he needed two since he is out so much in the weather with the town highway crew.  Then Matthew also made him the camo fleece that he is wearing.  This is a very warm Christmas for Ian.

Jason, being a college student got very practical gifts of new jeans and underthings.  He did get one fun thing from MK, a Barnes and Noble gift card.  That won’t last for long.

The big guy got a whole deck of Barnes and Noble gift cards.  I think there was a conspiracy going on around here.

MK’s nick name at school is colors.  She lived up to it on Christmas day.  I made here a many colored fleece to keep her warm at school.  I also go here thigh high socks from Target.  She even gave us a fashion show.

Then they posed for a family portrait with the furriest member of the family.  Lupus is there representing Adam who is currently stationed in Iraq.

  • What is he going to wear the costume for?  Is it for something special?  Glad all had a good time.  How does the son that wasn’t there feel having a dog in his place? lol

  • @TheSunnyC - The costume is just something to wear around the house.  My kids still like to pretend when they are at home.  Adam doesn’t mind having Lupus represent him since she is his dog.

  • Looks great!! Love the pictures and everyone smiling, laughing!! LOL that is a real gift being able to sew like that! My  mother sew / made all our clothes and some coats while growing up, with curtains etc…love the Family Picture!! Awesome!!

  • Very creative gifts and a very good-looking family!

  • @MlleRobillard - I have tried to teach them to think of the recipient and what they like.  We try to give handmade gifts for the vast majority of our giving whether it be Christmas or birthdays.  I think it makes it much more personal and much more of an impact on both the giver and the receiver if a lot of work goes into a gift.  Too many people find it too easy to give gift cards or just pick something off a shelf and call it a gift without thinking about the likes and dislikes of the person who will receive the gift.  Not that we don’t give gift cards too.  My second son is a reader and BN gift cards are just perfect for him. Especailly since he will be flying back to Kansas and it will be better for him not to have to pack a bunch of books.  Matthew made me a beautiful clock with storage inside of it that is absulutely precious.  He knows I like clocks and the picture that he chose to back the clock face shows that he put a lot of thought into it.  It is a forest scene which he knows is very restful for me.

  • It looks like you had a very blessed Christmas! I find the dog’s name kind of different. I’m pretty sure ‘lupus’ is also a disease, but I could be wrong.

  • Family together ~ Awesome!

  • @whteroses - her name is canus lupus which is latin for wolf.  a lot of people take us to task for naming her after a disease.  it just ain’t so
