Adam’s Birthday Cake
When a child is absent and their birthday roles around what is a mother to do? After all we are all used to celebrating birthdays in this house. Of course the only solution is to go ahead and celebrate anyway. So the cards were sent out (with confetti in them of course). More than one and for several days in advance so that the fun can go on and on.
Then on the day younger sister bakes a gingerbread. We adorn it with a candle (shaped like a heart because we love you Adam) The candle is lit and we all sing Happy Birthday and blow the candle out together. Then we all partook of the very delicious and moist gingerbread.
A piece was cut for Adam and put on the special plate. (a family tradition for birthdays and other special occasions).
So that is what you do when a child is absent and his birthday comes around.
